![]() Key West Florida offers a dizzying array of museums for you to explore and enjoy. For art aficionados, there's the Key West Museum of Art & at The Custom House. From colorful wood paintings of Key West by folk artist Mario Sanchez to painter Paul Collins' artistic depictions of Key West life in the 20th Century, the Museum is rich in Key West art history. Home to one of the greatest authors of all time is on 907 Whitehead Street. For more than ten years, that's the famous Key West address where Ernest Hemingway called home. Go back in time and see for yourself the home life this brilliant and respected Nobel Prize winner had, while he lived on Whitehead Street. Go back 200 years of Key West culture and find out why famed poet Robert Frost and others made it their home at The Key West Heritage House Museum and Robert Frost Cottage on Caroline Street. You can view Key West and the ocean around it atop the Key West Lighthouse. There's also artifacts, maps, instruments and more to see. Take a walk through the fascinating Fort East Martello Museum and Gardens, filled with artifacts, military memorabilia and local art. The infamous "Robert the Haunted Doll" resides there in his historic fortress. From 1946 to 1952, President Harry
S. Truman spent his winters at his Key
West winter home. For that reason, his house in Key West was
labeled the "Little White House". It went on to be used by
later
presidents. Now, you will be able to get a sense of what
presidential life was like back then, during that important juncture
in American history.
The largest and most authentic collection of pirate artifacts in the world dating back 300 years are in Key West at the Pirate Soul Museum on Front Street. From the plank of the pirate's ship to the rich history and magnitude of Key West's maritime heritage and some of the unfortunate vessels that wrecked off of the island, visit the Key West Shipwreck Historeum Museum. Many more tales of the sea with plenty of artifacts and exhibitions to view is at the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum. Although not a museum per se, we thought we'd tell you about another indoor exhibition worth visiting. It's the Key West Aquarium, and it's definitely worth going to see one of the daily shark feedings alone!
