Key
West Outdoor Adventures
There is without question, just as much fun
to be had
offshore than onshore, while you're in Key West Florida.
While
on land, we suggest visiting the Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State
Park.
There is so much to do at the 54-acre park, from biking along
it's scenic trails to basking in the sun at it's beautiful beaches.
To take in some more of nature's beauty, we suggest the delightful Key
West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory and Key West Tropical Forest and
Botanical Garden. You can't go wrong with both places if you want to
see the most vibrant Key West vegetation around.
If you'd like to spend time offshore, the list of
activities involved with the tropical waters off Key West is endless.
With
the only
living coral reef in North
America extending throughout the Keys, you can enjoy some of the best
scuba
diving and snorkeling in the United States.
Besides scuba
diving and snorkeling, we've got
some other great ideas on how to have fun while
you're out at
sea. We've compiled a
nice assortment of outdoor
adventures below, including fishing, sailing, jet skiing, and kayaking.
There are even ideas on how you can enjoy
the open waters but keep dry all the while. Activities
include taking an excursion on a Discovery Undersea Tours glass-bottom
boat and hopping aboard the Dry Tortugas National Park Ferry.
Key
West's beautiful beaches
are of course another great way to spend quality time outdoors.
A fun way to learn about all
kinds of Key West
attractions is by hopping onto a Conch Tour Train. Since
1958,
the Conch Tour Train has educated and entertained more than 15 million
Key West visitors, by taking them on a pleasant ride by many Key West
sights while giving an overview and explanation as to what each
landmark is all about.
Although not an outdoor adventure per se,
one must
visit the Southernmost Point monument while in Key West.
There
are great coastal views from that location, and just being there will
put you exactly at the southernmost point in the continental United
States.
Whatever you decide to do during the day, don't forget to put on plenty
of sunblock while you're out and about, as the sun is very
strong
on and off the
island. Unless you want to look like one of
the lobsters that live
offshore,
we strongly suggest keeping those bottles of SPF handy!
And, when your day of fun is complete, there are more good times ahead
at night.
That's because the best way to end each and every day you're
in
Key West is at Mallory Square for its Sunset Celebrations.
Besides looking out at a gorgeous sunset, there are all kinds
of
performers and street vendors that will keep you entertained and amused.
